A trilogy of street photography books, each unique to their medium, each equal in the capture of Tokyo.
How can we capture life? How can we document the essence of a city? How can we translate Tokyo onto the printed page?
The Tokyo Trilogy seeks to address these questions through a series of three street photography books. Unique to their medium, each is equal in the capture of Tokyo.
The vibrant color and history, the busy madness of a mega city distilled into the tactile wonder of a photographic print.
Monochrom:
The first book in the series features Tokyo street photography captured with an incredible Leica Mononchrom Q2 camera. With its monochrome sensor and 28mm lens, this machine is purpose-built for street photography. Black and white images that span the whole of Tokyo will feature in this first volume of the Tokyo Trilogy.
Transparency:
The second book aims to show Tokyo's colours, from the weathered and faded tones of the covered shopping streets to the vibrant lights of the city center. The images will be printed on transparent paper, creating a tactile and visual experience.
Moment:
Moment, the third book in the Tokyo Trilogy, completes the trilogy. Using a one-second exposure, it captures a literal moment on the streets of Tokyo. The blur of people streaks across the frozen-in-time background of this animated city, presented in both colour and black-and-white, tying this project together.
